What Are Some Life Hacks That You Practice?
People ask me this a lot, usually expecting a tidy list of apps or morning routines. I never quite know how to answer in one breath, because the “hacks” that have actually held my life together aren’t tricks at all. They’re habits I’ve had to fight for, across medicine, business, and everything in between.
1. I treat rest as a decision, not a reward.
Medical school will teach you, quickly, that there is always more to read, always another patient case to review, always one more thing left undone. For a long time I believed rest was something I’d earn once the list was finished. It never was. Now I schedule rest the way I schedule a ward round  deliberately, on the calendar, non-negotiable. It’s not laziness; it’s maintenance.
2. I write things down the moment they matter, not when it’s convenient.
Whether it’s a line for a novel, a lesson from a client interaction at King David Properties, or an idea for a mentee, I’ve learned that inspiration doesn’t wait for a “good time.” I keep notes everywhere ; my phone, scraps of paper, the margins of textbooks. Half of what ends up in my writing started as a fragment I almost let slip away.
3. I verify before I trust in real estate and in life.
Running a verification-first brokerage has quietly reshaped how I move through the world. I no longer take things at face value, whether it’s a land title or a promise someone makes me. Not out of cynicism, but out of respect for how much damage a false assumption can do. Check the paperwork. Check the story. Then proceed.
4. I let my different worlds talk to each other.
Medicine teaches patience with slow processes. Business teaches urgency and follow-through. Mentorship teaches humility, you learn as much from the young people you guide as they learn from you. Instead of keeping these in separate boxes, I let the discipline of one inform the others. A diagnostic mindset makes me a sharper businessman. A mentor’s patience makes me a better student.
5. I stay anchored to something bigger than the to-do list.
On the days when medicine feels heavy, or a deal falls through, or the writing won’t come, it’s faith, and the sense that all of this is connected to a larger purpose, that keeps me moving. Not as an escape from the work, but as the reason the work matters at all.
None of these are hacks in the clever, shortcut sense. They’re just the things i practice consistently, have kept me whole while carrying more than one calling at a time. If you’re juggling your own callings, I’d say this: don’t look for a trick. Look for the discipline that lets you show up, fully, in every room you walk into.
